Commissing information

There are many things for both parties to consider when thinking about commissions, such as:

Timescales – do you have an idea of when you need the finished piece. I work to roughly two month timescale ( I also work in a full time job). This is so it isn’t rushed and there is time for us to work through all of the detail.

Size – do you have a specific location in mind where the painting will hang? I will usually provide the painting, and let the customer frame it to their preference, however I am happy to chat about this or source a frame/information for you.

Colours – I am fairly traditional in that most of my skies are realistic in colour, and are often a deep indigo blue, however other sky colours are available. The colour also needs to work with whatever land element there might be, so have a think about what season the overall piece may represent. This doesn’t mean you can’t have a leafy tree in autumn, it just helps narrow down the infinite options a little.

Any essentials – I am not a bricks and mortar detail artist, but there may be a particular tree you’d like to include, or a plant climbing up the front door. Have a think about your definites to include or exclude.

A few other things - I often include some text based collage in my work, this is usually from a book that has meaning to me, and often can help me name a piece! If you'd like collage included or how that might work please say. I have also previously stitched into the landscapes, possible on the smaller versions of my landscapes as I only have a domestic sewing machine!

How it works

Email me your requirements to SarahHannerHopwood@gmail.com with an overall idea, along with some photos if you have them. If you’re local I may come along and take some snaps for reference, or they can be sent to me on email.

If there are details such a specific looking sky, your favourite tree, or a quirky addition I may sketch these out for you so you can see what they might look like.

Once all the elements are agreed I will provide a rough layout for you to see. After this point it’s very difficult to make changes so if there is anything you’re not keen on just ask, it’s your painting.

With watercolour it’s a single chance process, so if I don’t get your preferences right up front, it’s back to a blank page! I will only move on to the final piece once you’re happy with the plans as we develop them together.

Prices

I don’t require a deposit, payment is only made once you’re happy with the final piece pre-framing.
A guide to my prices is as follows:

Up to approx A4 (18 x 26cm / 9 x 11in) = £150

Approx A3 (28 x 38cm / 11 x 15in) - £300

Approx A2 (38 x 56cm / 15 x 22in) = £450

Approx A1 (56 x 76cm / 22 x 30in) = £600

Prices are based on commonly available watercolour paper sizes, exclude VAT (I am not VAT registered) and exclude mounting and framing. Remember your final piece could be much larger once you have added a mount (single or double, and a frame).

If you require a size not covered here please let me know as I will need to source the right size paper!

Contract

Once we agree to proceed I will send you a contract on email, this will outline the timescales and price so we all are working to the same plans, a confirmation on email is required to book in the project.
